“Research suggests that prison programming focused on life issues, such as employment, drug abuse,
and family relations, is most effective if the work continues in the community after release.” Vera Institute of Justice, “Why Planning
for Release Matters”

CRI
believes that it takes a minimum of 2 years to prepare for release from prison and that is why we have created our CRI Empowered
Reentry Program. A program run by an experienced team with strong curriculum designed to provide education
and life skills. Men who voluntarily enter our program are helped to understand who they are, where they
have been, where they are going, and we help them prepare a road map to successfully get there and stay the course. CRI
believes that there has to be a cohesive transition from incarceration to freedom. In order to be successful
an inmate must have a “safe place” to go upon his release. A place where he can continue the
work he has started and have assistance with adjusting to life on the outside, gaining employment, and reconnecting with his
family. CRI will match our graduates with a “safe place” that meets CRI’s strict criteria.

CRI will also,
should they wish, continue to work with these men to make sure that they stay on the right path. Services
are provided to make this happen, including individual case management, life-long support, encouragement, and assistance.

CRI is working to obtain a CRI
house in the San Francisco Bay Area for men to be released to, starting a Maintenance & Construction company to employee
these men who have great skills and a willingness to work hard, to obtain scholarship money for men to continue their education
upon release. We believe this will make our work even more successful.
CRI believes that it is vital to reach out to the community
and prevent young men moving along the path to gangs, drugs, violence and incarceration so through our Sharing the Truth
with Youth program we are reaching young men between the ages of 12-16 and young adult men 17-24. Please see our section
on Community Outreach for more details.
